Lake Murray is accessible by I-26 at the Irmo and Chapin exits, and by I-20 at the Lexington exits. Since the Lake is so big, many main roads lead lake area residents, into Columbia, but Interstate travel is by far the most popular.

Lake Murray is famous for its striped bass program, and record striped bass caught in the lake weighed in at 52+ pounds.

Many parks and recreation opportunities are available near the lake.  Dreher Island State Park is a great place to picnic; and SCE&G provides numerous public access areas.  Crooked Creek Park in Chapin offers indoor and outdoor recreation facilities.

The Lake Murray Dam now offers a walking path for those exercise enthusiasts who can enjoy a view of the beautiful waters of the Lake; as well as getting fresh air and exercise.
