Well, it’s here. The final game of the regular season and the 3rd longest continuous rivalry in college football. This Saturday South Carolina will take on the Clemson Tigers at Williams-Brice Stadium with the hope of continuing their 4 year winning streak. Some know it as The Palmetto Bowl, others know it as the longest uninterrupted series in the South, but all Gamecock and Clemson fans know it as the biggest game of the year. Dating back to the 1880s before Clemson was even established, the rivalry between South Carolina and Clemson runs deep. The potential founding of Clemson created a controversy and rivalry that would continue for more than 117 years. The campuses are separated by 132 miles of Southern animosity that comes to life on the football field every Saturday after Thanksgiving.
The Carolina-Clemson history includes pranks, violence and good ole Southern smack talk from fans and players on both sides. One thing is certain, the Carolina-Clemson game is never short on drama. This season both Clemson and South Carolina started their seasons as top 10 ranked teams and will enter this weekend’s rival game as the #6(Clemson) and #10 (South Carolina) ranked teams in the nation. With the chance of playing in the SEC Championship in the hands of Missouri, South Carolina’s focus is on continuing their home game winning streak and beating the Clemson Tigers.
