Run For our Troops 9/11
This is an annual event hosted by Cayce-West Columbia Jaycees at the West Columbia Riverwalk. All the proceeds from the race go to support active troops, veteran military, and first responders that are coping with physical and emotional injuries resulting from their heroic service to our country.
The 5k begins at 6:30pm. The course will start on Alexander Road right near the West Columbia Riverwalk Amphitheater. This course is USA Track & Field-Certified, 2012.
Dogs are welcome on leashes along the Riverwalk, but it’s strongly advised against strollers for safety reasons. There are potentially dangerous switchbacks at the entrance to the Riverwalk, and there are several large curves throughout the pathway along the river.
There will be cash prizes and trophies will be awarder to the Top 3 overall Male & Female finishers; Medals will be awarded to the Top 3 Divisional Males & Females for age groups: Under-20, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60-and-over. You can register online at Strictly Running but they are also accepting on-site registration at the amphitheater parking lot beginning at 4:30pm on Wednesday 9/11/13.
West Columbia, SC and Cayce, SC: are the first towns you enter when you cross the Gervais and Blossom Bridge. Both boast plenty of shopping centers and restaurants and the Columbia Airport. They provide a downtown feel without having to deal with the downtown traffic. Both towns are conveniently just minutes away from downtown which gives you access to the exciting downtown nightlife and restaurants just a short drive away.
