Lexington High School is the second largest public school in South Carolina, which provides education for grades 9 – 12. Lexington High School serves the multi-cultural youths of Lexington, Lake Murray and Oak Grove. The Lexington High School proficiency test scores are ranked in the top percentile within South Carolina which is due to their student’s opportunity to take college Advanced Placement course work and exams. Lexington High School has continually performed better in math, English, art, than other schools within South Carolina High School Assessment Program. Its graduation rate is 74% over the state average of 66%. Their faculty educational background are teachers who hold Bachelor and Master’s degrees. Not only does Lexington High School sports programs hold local and national awards, but their educational staff have also achieved fame.
Lexington High’s Athletics Programs
The Lexington High School girls golf team was the only and first South Carolina team to attend the 2013 Antiqua National High School Invitational. A Lexington High School math teacher won the South Carolina Credit Union League Financial Education of the Year award for his teaching techniques about financial responsibility.

The “Wildcat” is the high school’s popular mascot symbol. Lexington High is South Carolina’s only public high school to be chosen twice as the Carolina First Palmetto Finest. The Palmetto Finest award recognizes schools that provide quality, innovative, and successful educational programs.
Lexington High School is continually recognized as the pinnacle of learning with the Lexington County district. Lexington High won the Palmetto awards for the 2012-2013 school seasons and also achieved the South Carolina High School League Directors’ Cup for athletic distinction.
The Addition of River Bluff to Lexington, SC
Change comes to all aspects of life, including our children’s educational experience. Lexington High School has been divided once before into another high school in 2000. Lexington County builds new schools when the existing schools become student over populated. The first split formed White Knoll High School in the southern neighborhood of Lexington and the current split created the new River Bluff High School in the northeast community of Lexington. The division does not stop with Lexington High School, there are elementary and middle schools who will also undergo a split.

The new River Bluff High School has adopted the “gator” as their mascot and their school opening will occur in the fall of 2013. The Wildcat motto of Lexington High School is “ not to fear change, but to see victory in it.” The faculty, coaches and students embrace the change and the challenge of losing 1,200 student/athletes to the new high school. The remaining Lexington High School attendees plan to retain their prominent standing in education and sports, statewide.
